SDCC 2026: Community Manager Michael Recchia Dives Deeper Into ‘Marvel Contest Of Champions’ New Towers Mode

by Gary Catig

Marvel Contest of Champions is a popular fighting mobile game that has been out for a dozen years. Part of the reason it has had such a longevity is due to its regular updates adding new content and features. Recently, the game added a Towers mode for users to enjoy. During San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Comicon.com spoke with Kabam Community Manager Michael Recchia to learn more about this new playable mode and what they have in store for the rest of the year.

Despite its age, Marvel Contest of Champions is still approachable for new people thanks to the availability of bundle packs that contain several older characters to collect easily. It also has broad appeal, which Recchia spoke about.

“We have one of, if not the largest roster of Marvel characters in a Marvel video game with over 350. Whether you are a casual Marvel enjoyer or a very niche Marvel fan, there’s going to be something for everybody inside this game across different game modes, whether it be casual or competitive, and the new features along the way.”

Talking about the newly added feature, Recchia said:

“Towers in a fighting game is a very standard mode. If you’ve played other fighting games in the past, you might be familiar with the format. All the defenders are there on the ladder, and then you pick your attackers, and you line them up, and then you go through them one by one. They’re racing against the clock, and that’s the primary threat of the game.”

He added:

“We’re a 12 year-old game. We have over a dozen game modes at this point. This is our newest one that we launched one month ago, and we’re already seeing a competitive scene really start to flesh out inside this game mode. Towers are actually permanent. So every tower that is released in game is permanent. We have our six classes in the game. We have our six different class towers, and then we have challenge towers that are released periodically. We had one that launched on release day, and then we also had one that launched just last week on Thursday as well. So months in we already have two challenge towers. Both are also permanent, adding tower rating onto your overall score so you can get those rewards every single month when they pay out.”

Recchia couldn’t reveal too much about future plans, but he believes fans will not be disappointed. He said:

“We have launched four major game-changing features in 2026 alone. So well past a decade of this game’s lifespan, we’re still innovating at every single chance that we can. I can’t talk about the things that we have planned for the second half of the year, but there are some supremely exciting things that we were working on right now. I think our players are going to be extremely excited for.”
