Gen Con 2026: White Wolf Announces ‘Vampire The Masquerade’ 6th Edition Helmed By Jess Lanzillo

by Anton Kromoff

Welcome to the table,

The 1990s were an amazing time to venture into the tabletop role-playing space. Dungeons & Dragons, GURPS, R.I.F.T.S, and Beyond The Supernatural were regularly played at tables across the land. In the back rooms of comic shops and gaming stores between rounds of BattleTech and Blood Bowl, the White Wolf gothic horror gaming sensation Vampire The Masquerade was starting to take hold with gamers and storytellers alike.

I personally have a large collection of White Wolf and a handful of Black Dog books from the World of Darkness line of games. I have played or run more than my fair share of chronicles over the years. Because of that, I am thrilled to share with you that White Wolf has revealed that Vampire: The Masquerade 6th Edition (V6) is in active development.

V6 is the next iteration and evolution of the tabletop role-playing game. It’s the debut White Wolf project of World of Darkness Creative Director Jess Lanzillo, a veteran world builder and storyteller who you may recognize from her work on Magic: The Gathering and D&D.

The reveal took place during The Future of White Wolf panel at Gen Con 2026. White Wolf confirmed that V6 is built to honor the legacy of The Masquerade while modernizing its dice mechanics, character creation, and storyteller tools.

Players who want to get in on the ground level and shape V6’s development can register for the free open alpha playtest on Demiplane and experience seven of the planned fourteen Vampire clans.

Vampire: The Masquerade 6th Edition introduces a reworked rules engine and a deeper toolkit for players and storytellers. The update will include Core System Changes where Vitae and Willpower/Health merge into a single resource, Difficulty subtracts dice from a pool rather than raising a target number, and players roll nearly all of the dice at the table.

There will also be an added Beast/Nature Tracker and revamped Humanity Scale. These turn the struggle between Beast and Humanity into an active, personalized system rather than a static number. I have played with this concept over the years myself in homebrew mechanics, so I am very excited to see how this is going to look in an official format.

From a storyteller’s perspective, the “Devil’s Bargains” and “Choose Your Pain” mechanics are being added to support player-driven failure states. Storytellers can enjoy a smoother, level-based building system for NPCs. Players and storytellers can also easily find safety tools through explicit TTRPG Safety Toolkit callouts.

“We have a strong creative vision guiding us,” Lanzillo said. “Never before have we been able to bring the community into a Vampire: The Masquerade project at such an early stage, and we’re confident that will help us build a line of V6 books that speaks to both new and longtime players.”

“With Vampire: The Masquerade 6th Edition, players get a faster engine that still keeps the things Vampire: The Masquerade veterans love, while removing friction,” added Diogo Nogueira, Lead Game Designer at White Wolf. “There’s less book-flipping, quicker NPC creation, and more mechanics that support the tension at the table. The new Nature/Beast Tracker especially creates that push-and-pull that reinforces the tone.”

This is all really cool news because Vampire: The Masquerade 6th Edition is the first Masquerade project developed and published in-house under White Wolf following the brand’s return in 2025. Big things seem to be on the horizon for the World of Darkness as a whole.

Until next time, keep your eyes on Comicon.com, and I will keep you updated on all things World of Darkness.
