Marvel Comics Gives A First Look Into November’s ‘Avengers’ #1

The Avengers are facing one of the greatest threats they’ve ever faced to date in the pages of Avengers: Armageddon. In November, we’ll see a new era for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and Marvel Comics has given us a glimpse into that future, including some hints of what’s to come.

Releasing on November 4th, the series will reteam the acclaimed Daredevil creative team of Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto. Avengers #1 will see the world’s mightiest at their lowest point, with the public’s trust of them shattered. Out of the rubble will rise a new team, led by Captain Marvel, Wolverine, Luke Cage, Daredevil and Spider-Man, with several new and surprise members rounding out the line-up.

There’s some interesting hints in these pages (which is surprisingly lettered and minimally censored). In the first page, Cage and Spidey have a heart to heart, and there’s some fascinating hints at the end of Armageddon. Apparently someone dies, Tony Stark commits a war crime, and something about those events causes the Avengers to disband and the world turns against superpowered beings in general.

Sounds bad, and it’s apparently bad enough that it’s nearly driven Carol Danvers, who’s been sober for years, back to drink. Without a doubt, it’s going to be interesting to see what’s to come, and with Zdarsky at the helm, it’s unlikely to be a warmed over retread.

Beyond these preview pages Marvel revealed that the series will launch with True Believers blind bags. The bags will feature covers unavailable anywhere else. The artists include Adi Granov (whose cover was included with the press release), Clayton Crain, Alex Maleev, Alan Davis, Peach Momoko, Simone Bianchi, Artgerm and two covers by David Nakayama. There will also be Marvel Studios covers, blanks and original art covers from surprise Marvel superstars.
