He Is The Law! ‘Fifty Years Of Judge Dredd’ Out February 2027

2027 marks the 50th anniversary of 2000 AD, a stunning achievement for a weekly comic. Many things will be announced, we’re sure, but the first of these is the new Fifty Years of Judge Dredd collection, out February 2027…

Yes, the mighty weekly comics juggernaut that is 2000 AD began back in 1977, meaning that 2027 should be a year with many, many events and special releases to mark the 50th anniversary.

The first of these is a deluxe release of Fifty Years of Judge Dredd, coming in February 2027, celebrating the 50th anniversary of 2000 AD’s flagship character, who first appeared in 2000 AD Prog 2. The brand-new collection will showcase the very best of the Lawman of the Future, featuring stories across five decades.

The book will also feature new interviews conducted by 2000 AD‘s Eisner-winning Michael Molcher (he won for I Am The Law, a fascinating treatise on Dredd and the parallels with modern policing). Expect to see contributions from John Wagner, Mick McMahon, Jock and so many more.

It’s promising to be a book that perfectly summarises 50 years of Judge Dredd in 40 of the very best complete Dredd stories, capturing the essence of this iconic character, one of the most recognisable in all of British comics.

Created by Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra, Judge Dredd has been dealing out summary judgement on the streets of Mega-City One for 50 years now. And anyone who’s been following our continued coverage of 2000 AD here at Comicon in the Weekly 2000 AD will know that Dredd is a comic that can be anything and everything at all, from pure sci-fi, through future war stories, ridiculous comedy or absolute horror, to hard-hitting satire. Truly, there’s every possible tale that’s been told in the pages of Judge Dredd.

The decade-spanning and concise summation of all that makes Judge Dredd so great will feature work by some of the greatest talents of the comics world, including Brian Bolland, Cam Kennedy, Duncan Fegredo, RM Guera, and so many more.

Fifty Years of Judge Dredd is released on 11th February 2027, an oversized omnibus collection, available in standard hardback or 2000 AD webshop-exclusive slipcase editions, with each slipcase individually numbered and showcasing exclusive new artwork by Henry Flint, inspired by Ezquerra’s original character design sketch.
