Review: ‘Freaks’ Sequeele’ Vol. 4 Increases The Cast

Writer, artist, and colorist Florent Maudoux, production assistant and lettering by Chris Northrop, English translator Dan Christensen are the main creatives to implement their skills in the creation of this comic. Though Magnetic Press publisher Mike Kennedy is applying unseen skills when it comes to the localization and edition layout.

There are some shifts in status for several of the long time characters. Also some new characters appear in this volume, and certain ones have powers that this reviewer never thought about before. However, only one of the additions gets a chance at readers’ seeing them do an internal monologue. Though it is hard to say whether Maudoux will really use more of these characters in the future since there is already a large number. Yet, besides the trio that the story is centering around it is clear who some of the mainstays are.

It is worth mentioning that while the art and colors are not displaying obvious improvement, there is a subtle change to them. Unfortunately, since the art and two sections with color are so high quality, the difference is only noticeable from a studious examination of the visuals.

When it comes to the translation, there are still a few typos apparent in the text, but way less than in the previous volumes. While the localization is mostly fine, there is one questionable bit of dialogue that other readers might also question.

The last thing worth mentioning is the odd cliffhanger on the last story page of this edition. It seems off because the last line of dialogue comes from a weirder character that is just now meeting several others. However, the art does not reflect proper reactions to the dialogue. Although it still works as a cliffhanger, it could be much better. Nevertheless, this detail may not greatly affect a lot of readers’ enjoyment of this epic tale.
