Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel are back on the schedule.
Previously set for release this past summer, Dynamite paused the premiere of both titles from writer Kelly Thompson. Both she and the the company maintained the titles would see release, with the delay necessary due to “creative and publishing” factors and an increasing scope of the story.
And now, just a few days ahead of New York Comic Con, Dynamite has announced both titles will debut in March 2027 with the first issue of Buffy from Thompson and artist Stephen Byrne set for release on the 10th of that month. Thompson and Giulia Giacomino‘s Angel will follow in the weeks after. The two titles are intertwined as Thompson tells a grand tale across both comic books in the initial storyline.
“The first thing I ever tried to seriously write when I was first trying, was a Buffy the Vampire Slayer spec script. So, to say this is a dream realized … at least from a certain angle, is deeply true,” Thompson said in a statement. “It’s critical that readers read both Buffy the Vampire Slayer #1 and Angel #1, as those two books together sort of ‘set the table’ for this new situation our characters find themselves in and launch how they’re going to be dealing with it. It’s going to be a much more complete and rewarding reading experience to read the books together for at least the first arc. And part of the reason for doing that is because comics are so much more flexible.”
To reflect this, the debut issues will be extra-sized with Buffy #1 clocking-in at 35 pages while Angel #1 will reach shelves with 32 pages of story. Released as 48-page comics, both are priced at $4.99 — the original price point announced for the summer launch.
Additionally, the also-delayed Firefly by Mark Russell and Lorenzo Re takes flight in April.
All three titles come with expanded cover options and blind bag variant offerings. Also, Dynamite notes the Angel cover by Clayton Crain includes the first appearance of a new antagonist known as Leviathan. Who or what the character truly is will be further outlined when Angel debuts in March.
