First Look At Dark Horse Comics’ ‘Canto: The Clockwork Chronicles’ #1

The Mechanical Sea is calling, and Canto is ready for adventure. The “Small Knight with a Big Heart” returns November 18th in an all-new adventure from Dark Horse Comics.

Following a previous announcement of the all-new ongoing series, Dark Horse Comics is giving readers a first look inside Canto: The Clockwork Chronicles #1 from writer David M. Booher, co-creator and series artist Drew Zucker, colorist Vittorio Astone, and letterer AndWorld Design.

Action! Suspense! Adventure! Set sail with Canto across the Mechanical Sea!

The small knight with a big heart travels the Unnamed World to help those in need. That mission takes him to the mysterious Forgotten Isles, where jungle fauna mixes with strange machines. What happened to the Forgotten People who once lived there? That mystery must wait when catastrophe befalls his best friend, Mico the Malorex. Will Canto’s courage be enough to save his companion? Or will their journey end at the bottom of the Mechanical Sea?

Since its 2019 debut, Canto has captured readers’ hearts with stories of courage, friendship, and the belief that even the smallest hero can change the world. The Clockwork Chronicles begins a new era for the character while giving first-time readers an easy place to jump aboard.

Canto: The Clockwork Chronicles #1 features a main cover by Zucker and Astone, with variant covers by Duncan Fegredo and Mr. Oz, plus the first in a series of collectible “vintage pulp” incentive covers from Lukas Ketner, who will create one for each of the first six issues.

Perfect for longtime fans and first-time readers alike, this thrilling new adventure is filled with imagination, unforgettable characters, and a tiny tin hero whose kindness is every bit as powerful as his courage. A must-read for fans of Kaya, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Usagi Yojimbo, Amulet, and D’Orc.

Zucker will be in attendance at New York Comic Con 2026 (October 8th-11th) and Booher will be in attendance at LA Comic Con (October 30th-November 1st).

Canto: The Clockwork Chronicles #1 goes on sale November 18th, 2026 (FOC on October 12th) and is now available for pre-order through your local comic shop or directly from Dark Horse Comics.
