‘Magic: The Gathering’ Does Some Voodoo With ‘Labyrinth’ Themed Secret Lair Drops

by Anton Kromoff

Welcome to the table,

Magic: The Gathering has always brought imagination and fun to the table. With this new Secret Lair drop, they have not let us down. As part of the Spooky Season Corn Maze Superdrop, we are getting three Labyrinth-themed drops that bring the power to do, the voodoo that Magic does so well.

Let’s get into it!

Secret Lair x Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: Should You Need Us

The Secret Lair x Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: Should You Need Us drop showcases the companions Sarah meets along her journey in The Labyrinth.

Ludo, Hoggle, Sir Didymus, The Worm, and The Wiseman represent the friendlier side of the Labyrinth, which is not the same as saying anyone should let their guard down.
In total, this drop has one Kogla, the Titan Ape as “Ludo, Rock Caller,” one Shigeki, Jukai Visionary as “The Wiseman, Eccentric Oracle,” one Wort, Boggart Auntie as “Hoggle, Heart in Conflict,” one Kami of the Crescent Moon as “The Worm, Sagely Guide,” one Lu Xun, Scholar General as “Sir Didymus, Rider of Ambrosius” // “Sir Didymus, Faithful Companion.”

This drop also features Sarah, Champion to the Lost, whose art connects with Jareth, Goblin King from Secret Lair x Labyrinth: Fear Me, Love Me to create a scene across the two cards.

Secret Lair x Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: Fear Me, Love Me

The Secret Lair x Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: Fear Me, Love Me drop focused on Jareth, the Goblin King, and the particular kind of trouble that follows when someone gives him too much dramatic lighting and a crystal orb or three to play with.

The drop captures Jareth’s hold over the Labyrinth through goblins, gifts, stolen time, and Jareth, Goblin King, whose art connects with Sarah, Champion to the Lost from Secret Lair x Labyrinth: Should You Need Us to create a scene across the two cards. You can see that above.

This set contains one Muxus, Goblin Grandee as “Jareth, Goblin King,” one Boggart Shenanigans as “Call Out the Goblins!,” one Dance with Calamity as “Dance with Goblins,” one Goblin Rabblemaster as “Goblin Cradle-Thieves,” one Claim the Firstborn as “The Kidnapping of Toby,” and one Trinisphere as “I’ve Brought You a Gift.”

Secret Lair x Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: Through the Labyrinth

The Jim Henson-themed sets from this drop are rounded out with the Secret Lair x Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: Through the Labyrinth that follows Sarah into the maze with fully illustrated cards inspired by the film’s strange rooms, stranger rules, and memorable wrong turns.

From the thirteenth hour to the Fireys, the Cleaners, and the doors that are technically helping, this drop knows the castle is further than you think.

Of the three, this drop feels the most artful and directed at collectors, but I know there are for sure players out there who would sleeve these and bring them to the table if given the chance.

In this one you get one Timely Ward as “Rescue in the 13th Hour,” one Chronomantic Escape as “Under Jareth’s Spell,” one Delayed Blast Fireball as “Frenzy of the Fireys,” one Tempt with Discovery as “The Goblin King’s Offer,” one Rogue’s Passage as “Shaft of Hands,” one Planar Temporal Gateway as “Doors of Indecision,” and one Leveler as “The Cleaners Leveler.”
There is also a really cool promo while supplies last that allows fans to receive an exclusive foil Maze of Ith as “The Labyrinth” promo card for every $199 spent, while supplies last.
Until next time, let us know in the comments if you’re stoked for this set.
