Steampunk Western Anime ‘Bass X Machina’ Is Coming To Netflix
by Tito W. James
Bass X Machina is a steampunk western anime inspired by the Black US Marshal Bass Reeves. The project sees Reeves upgraded with a steampunk arm to protect his family from outlaws, machines, and supernatural threats. The show looks similar in tone and appeal to 2021’s Yasuke. Both shows take Black figures from true history and remix them into fantastic genre-inspired worlds. There’s a large number of passionate African American anime fans who’d love to see more authentic Black characters in the medium. Let’s hope that people show up to support this project that breaks the mold.
Bass X Machina is out on Netflix on November 3rd.
