‘Cunk On Cinema’ Trailer Teases Tough Michael Bay Interview
by Erik Amaya
While we missed it in our preview of Netflix releases for November — as it turns out, it wasn’t in the listings! — Philomena Cunk (Diane Morgan) is back on the service next month with Cunk on Cinema, her deep-dive into the influential artform. Take a look at the preview below to get a sense for what awaits you.
And yes, she is speaking to Benedict Cumberbatch. But for us, the most impactful moment is the one with Michael Bay. He seems uniquely unprepared for Cunk’s line of questioning. Could she dig deeper into his psyche than anyone ever has? Beyond the two notable faces, she also chats with screenwriter Steven E. de Souza and various other filmmakers, critics, experts, and industry types to determine what cinema has been and, possibly, where it is going.
Curiously, the format for Cunk on Cinema is decidedly un-feature-film-like: six 15-minutes episodes form the program’s run, as opposed the previous long-form series or special one-offs. But, we imagine, there are secret and deep reasons for the choice of episode number and length.
Cunk on Cinema debuts November 15th on Netflix and on BBC iPlayer and BBC Two in the UK and Ireland.
