BEA ’17: New 80’s Animation Art Book – Totally Awesome! The Greatest Cartoons Of The Eighties

by Staff

Coming up in the Autumn, Insight Editions will be releasing a new art book that focuses in tightly on the animated series of the 1980’s, reminding you of all the Saturday morning cartoons that shaped your world-view: Totally Awesome! The Greatest Cartoons of the Eighties. Or if you’re only discovering the 80’s now, bringing you a wealth of inspiration since for all their quirkiness, 80’s cartoons were rife with creativity.

Written and curated by Andrew Farago, who is the author of The Looney Tunes Treasury and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Visual History, and also the curator of San Francisco’s Cartoon Art Museum, the book gathers the perspectives of writers, animators, voice actors, and many others who contributed to these animated series.
Some of the cartoons that will be included in the book will be:
-He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
-G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero
-Transformers
-Jem
-The Real Ghosbusters
-Garfield and Friends
-Thundercats
-Robotech
-M.A.S.K
And quite a few more, also. Artwork in the book will also include rare and never-before-seen sketches, cels, and storyboards and the book will be about 176 pages, with 10 inserts. It will retail at $50.00.
I picked up a colorful sample of the forthcoming book at BookExpo America last week and was intrigued by what I saw. Here’s a glimpse at some of the interior pages:

Look out for Totally Awesome! The Greatest Cartoons of the Eighties from Insight Editions in October 2017.
