Spider-Man: Homecoming Set For Disc And Digital Release

by Erik Amaya

Sony has announced the release dates for Spider-Man: Homecoming on digital and disc platforms.
For those still invested in owning a physical copy, the 4K/Blu-ray and DVD release of the film is set for October 17th. Those trusting the cloud to deliver the video goods will get their chance to own a virtual copy of the film on September 26th.
The film, co-produced with Marvel Studios, resets the Spidey clock with a teenage Peter Parker (Tom Holland) coming to grips with being an Avengers-class superhero while still dealing with typical sophomore or junior year issues like first loves, academic decathlons and keeping his secret safe from Aunt May. Meanwhile, contractor Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton) turns to a life a crime when his contract to clean up Chitauri wreckage following the Battle of New York — or “The Incident” if you’re a Defender — gets superseded by the US Department of Damage Control. How the lives of Peter and Adrian collide makes for one of the most entertaining Spider-Man films to date.
Fans of physical media will be thrilled to know Sony had produced a number of special features including featurettes, deleted scenes, a gag reel and a collection of Captain America’s (Chris Evans) public service announcements. It might be the most intriguing special feature of them all.
Those with a 4K set-up will get the option to watch the film in High Dynamic Range and utilize the Dolby Atmos encoding. But I suppose the latter presumes you have the hardware for Atmos.
