Hydra Returns In A Preview Of Friday’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
by Erik Amaya
Cut one head off and another will rise. For the Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., that refrain can only mean Hydra has returned with a new goalpost to confound and disturb the once-again disgraced agency. But things are different this time. With General Hale (Katherine Dent) involved with the Kree, an apparent invasion of Earth on the way, and the Hydra tendency to be double-handed in their dealings, Coulson (Clark Gregg) finds himself with an interesting offer to secure the future of the planet.
So if it is not the Kree intending to invade, what alien species could be on the way? And will it pay off Black Bolt’s (Anson Mount) strange concern at the end of Inhumans? That series will likely never return, so quickly adding that hanging plot point to S.H.I.E.L.D. keeps things tidy in a television universe where everything is supposed to be connected.
In fact, that connection makes the recent announcement of Gregg’s involvement in Captain Marvel all the more interesting. Will the mysterious new aliens play some part in that film? And how does it all tie to the nightmare world the team glimpsed 90 years from now?
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Fridays on ABC.
