San Diego Comic Con may not start until Wednesday for Preview Night, but that doesn’t mean the superhero festivities can’t begin in the city. On Sunday, the annual Pawmicon – Cosplay For A Cause was held at Hazard Center. The family friendly event is to help celebrate orphan pets and their owners. All funds raised went towards the pets and programs of the Helen Woodward Animal Center.
There was plenty to do with carnival games, food options and the star attraction, the PAWSplay contest. There were many dogs dressed up from various fields of pop culture and all of them were adorable.
Some dogs came dressed up as DC Heroes including The Flash, Batman and Wonder Woman.
Not to be outdone, Marvel was represented with Thor, Captain America and some of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
There were other comics characters there like TMNT and animated favorites from Disney and Pokémon.
In addition, some cosplays were recognizable from the movies involving Beetlejuice and Freddy Krueger. Also, there was a Game of Thrones Dragon with a Khaleesi Funko Pop! on the back.
An added bonus was one of my personal heroes, Drew Brees. Who Dat!
Even the humans and statues got in on the action.
Overall, it was a fun time and it helped benefit a good cause. It also served as a good primer to lead into the big event, SDCC.
