Len Wiseman Boards DC Universe’s Swamp Thing As Executive Producer; Set To Direct Pilot
by Erik Amaya
Len Wiseman will bring his TV expertise to DC Universe’s Swamp Thing.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Underworld director will executive produce the series and direct the pilot. Besides spearheading the vampire franchise, Wiseman’s TV credits include Lucifer and The Gifted. He joins Aquaman director James Wan as an EP on the program. Swamp Thing will focus on Abby Arcane, who returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana; where she learns of the mystical forces in the swamp and discovers her lost love Alec Holland may not be so lost after all. Battlestar Galactica‘s Mark Verheiden and It‘s Gary Dauberman will write the pilot based on the character created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson. The will also serve as showrunners on the series.
During last week’s DC Daily live stream, DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee mentioned the series will takes its cues from Alan Moore’s run on the comic book and skew more toward horror. While it may be uncharted territory for television shows produced in the DC Entertainment era, the USA Network Swamp Thing series of the 1990s toyed with horror before going for a more family friendly feel. With DC Universe’s attempt to create programs less suited for broadcast — look at the Titans trailer for example — there is a good chance the new Swamp Thing will be a legit horror series.
Swamp Thing will debut on DC Universe in 2019.
