Brenton Thwaites On Infamous Titans Trailer Line

It was the moment everyone was talking about after DC Universe debuted the first trailer of their upcoming Titans television series. Robin (Blue Lagoon: The Awakening‘s Brenton Thwaites) attacks a bunch of goons in an alley. One of them asks, “where’s Batman?” The scene cuts to a close-up of the frustrated Boy Wonder’s face as he says, “F*ck Batman.”
Instantly derided as an attempt to make the series seem hip and edgy, it became a meme. It may not have done the job the producers of Titans ideally wanted, but it got people talking about the show and Thwaites’s Robin. And as the actor told Entertainment Weekly, it was an important idea to plant in minds of potential viewers. “It’s a show that isn’t about Batman,” he explained. “And I think it’s important for people to know that and maybe not be disappointed that they’re not going to see Batman jumping from the ceiling and beating up a hundred guys, because it’s not Batman, it’s a story about the Titans, essentially. I feel like ‘F*ck Batman’ says that in two words.”
The actors words also reflect the mindset of Dick Grayson as the series begins, who has broken away from the Dynamic Duo to find his own way. But as often happens to those in the superhero community, circumstances bring him back to the fight. For Dick, it happens when he meets a young girl named Raven (Teagan Croft), whose real issue requires a team of young heroes to address. Besides Thwaites and Croft, Titans also features Anna Diop as Starfire and Ryan Potter as Beast Boy.
Hopefully, meeting the other Titans will improve Dick’s mood. Thwaites suggests as much, which may also mean he will leave behind the Robin identity by the season’s end.
Titans debuts October 12th on DC Universe.
