SDCC 2024: ‘The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power’ Season 2 Trailer Goes To War

by Erik Amaya

As seen above, the story of Middle-earth’s Second Age continues in The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2. The preview answers one key question left from the initial eight episodes: when will Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) reveal Sauron was in their midst all along? But that is only the beginning of the problems for the Elves as the Three Rings Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards) made last season are in dispute, Sauron continues his plans in the South of Middle-earth, and Anatar (Charlie Vickers), the Lord of Gifts, comes to Celebrimbor with an intriguing offer to perfect the ring-craft by making more. Meanwhile, The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) inches closer to his destiny — with some help from Tom Bombadill (Rory Kinnear) — and the Elves once again go to war against the Orcs.

Of course, the trailer also offers a glimpse of Númenor, which is on a collision course with its own destiny.

Although occasionally divisive, The Rings of Power is an interesting adaptation of the Second Age tales The Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien never finished. It takes many liberties, to be sure, but nonetheless tries some interesting things and creates compelling dynamics, like the one between Elrond (Robert Aramayo) and Dwarf prince Durin (Owain Arthur). Will their friendship endure the upcoming hardships?

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power returns August 29th on Prime Video.
