Bandai-Namco Shows Off A Game Overview For “Bleach: Rebirth of Souls”

by Sage Ashford

Seems like Bandai-Namco just announced their Bleach fighting game, Bleach: Rebirth of Souls, and now there’s already a gameplay overview trailer. Even more impressive, it’s safe to say it’s nothing like what anyone expected, abandoning the usual “arena fighter” genre that’s common with anime fighters in favor of something that’s closer to the old Final Fantasy Dissidia fighting games.

The gameplay overview trailer displays the basic rules of the game via a battle between series protagonist Ichigo Kurosaki and Captain Byakuya Kuchiki. Rather than focus purely on health, fights are about weakening an opponent’s Reishi before using special moves to destroy the opponent’s “Konpaku”. Wiping out nine konpaku will win a match, though there are ways to put the battle back in either player’s favor with the Awakened state.

It’s great that Tamsoft felt comfortable breaking away from the expected arena fighter, even if it isn’t the kind of classic Dragon Ball FighterZ-style combat the fighting game community wants. With this detailed of a trailer available, is it possible this game is coming sooner than fans think?

Bleach: Rebirth of Souls is scheduled to release for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Steam, and Xbox Series.
