The Flash #59 Shows The Dark Side Of Globetrotting Adventure
by Tony Thornley
Barry Allen may be one of the smartest heroes on the planet, but The Flash #59 shows him he still has a lot to learn, and that’s just one of this issue’s strengths.

Joshua Williamson, Rafa Sandoval, Jordi Tarragona, Tomeu Morey, and Steve Wands continues Barry and Iris’s world tour with a trip to Gorilla City. However, the infamous DCU locale is a ghost town, and the mystery quickly pulls our heroes in.
[*Spoilers ahead!]

Someone or something has slaughtered the guards of Gorilla City. As Barry and Iris find survivors, the deadly duo called Gemini continue to pursue them. Barry learns that the gorillas knew about the other three forces though, leading them to the next force wielder!
Williamson does a lot of things right here. The story advances the plot, provides character growth, adds action, and ends with a great cliffhanger. It’s a master class in superhero comics, as it’s a complete story, but part of the larger storyline.

Sandoval and Tarragona’s work continues to be a great fit for the Flash. The mid-issue fight between Barry and a pair of robot gorillas looks great, but so does the conversation Barry has with the gorilla scientists. They are able to keep everything engaging, drawing the reader across the page. Morey compliments that with color work that plays with setting, tone and special effects all across the issue.
This is a very fun issue for any DC Comics fan!
