Bellolandia Is South America’s Answer To Anime
by Tito W. James
Bellolandia is a new Argentine animation studio that produces original projects in 2D animation. Bellolandia creates animation rooted in South American culture, from the design of its characters to its story content.
Deportivo Baby is reminiscent of Masaaki Yuasa‘s Ping Pong. The short has a winning cast of characters and a tightly designed world.
ELA has a jarring hardmix of grungy environments mixed with uplifting colors and music. If paired with a solid story, this vision could be really emotionally affecting.
Cosecha Trivia looks less like an animated short story and more like an excerpt from a point and click adventure game. The repetitive animation is hypnotic and the soundtrack tugs at your soul.
Yorudan District captures the heavy shadows and gradient dots of comics and blends it with slick looking animation. By far my favorite short in terms of visual design.
