DC’s Year Of The Villain: Neal Adams Returns For Batman Vs. Ra’s Al Ghul Mini-Series
by Olly MacNamee
While I personally believe Neal Adams has had his moment in the sun and his recent work on DC properties over the past few years would seem to be evidence of this (I’ll admit that I couldn’t even finish his Superman mini-series from 2016), there are still many fans out there who will greet the news that Adams returns to one of his greatest co-creations for DC, Ra’s al Ghul, with applause.
This 6 issue mini-series debuting this August is part of the bigger Year of The Villain initiative launched this past FCBD by DC Comics. Seems Ra’s is not the only one of Adam’s co-creations featured in the series either, with a guest appearance by Deadman on the cards, as you’ll learn from this handy synopsis.
Kicking off Batman Vs Ra’s al Ghul in August, Adams shows a Gotham City under siege by terrorists, with Batman determined to find the source. But when Boston Brand, aka Deadman, tries to intervene, he discovers an even more disturbing and deadly truth: the terrorists are led by an inhuman monster! Ra’s al Ghul volunteers his own private security force to aid the GCPD, and now they are the saviors standing between nuclear terror and the townspeople!
But al Ghul’s true goal is hidden from everyone’s eyes. He will destroy the city and kill Batman—this time for good. Watching in horror is…Bruce Wayne?
To coincide with the release of the first issue DC Comics will also be reprinting Ra’s first appearance from Batman # 232 too, as written by Denny O’Neil. A classic tale of the era and one that had a lasting effect on me when I finally read it as a kid. A reminder of Adams at his prime.
Both Batman VS Ra’s al Ghul #1 and Batman #232 facsimile will both be released on August 21, 2019 from DC Comics.
