Obsidian Entertainment is close to released their open-world “AA” RPG, The Outer Worlds, and have debuted a trailer to continue the hype train.
A single-player RPG courtesy of Private Division and Obsidian, players wind up in a location known as the Halcyon colony after getting lost traveling to the edge of the galaxy. Finding themselves on Halcyon, players are meant to explore the colony and hopefully foil a vast conspiracy. Of course, it’s never easy saving the world, even in outer space. The player is tasked with dealing with several different factions, not the least of which being the people in charge of the colony being a corporation that seems to run everything on the colony.
In a year where big budget RPGs seem to be in fairly short supply, it’s good that companies like Obsidian and Spiders are able to bring us quality games on a reasonable budget. Obsidian hasn’t been shy about choosing to prune off bits that would’ve been in games with larger budgets like mini-games and the like in favor of staying focused on the story and exploration, but that didn’t seem to hold Greedfall back from being a success. People have been looking for Obsidian to make a comeback for years now, and hopefully this will be the return to form they need before they become Microsoft exclusive.
The Outer Worlds releases on October 25th for PlayStation, PC, and Xbox One.
