The Giant Fist Of Liberty In Freedom Fighters #10
by Josh Davison
[*Mild Spoilers Ahead!]
Uncle Sam, Phantom Lady, and Cache start their assault on Cheyenne Mountain, the secret doomsday bunker of the Nazi occupation. Sam is able to grow to titanic sizes thanks to the growing hope of the American people, giving the Freedom Fighters an advantage in this fight. Inside Cheyenne Mountain, Adolf Hitler III continues his torture of Doll Woman in the hopes she or the Human Bomb will talk. Hitler III is interrupted by a summons to the war room, leaving Doll Woman and Human Bomb to talk about desperate measures.
Freedom Fighters #10 has Sam finally taking the fight to the Ratzis, with the Freedom Fighters rallying at the secret headquarters of Hitler II and III.
It’s a bombastic issue that has plenty of classic American bravado and “hell yeah-ing” to go around. It’s thoroughly satisfying to watch giant Uncle Sam crush Ratzi war wheels and tanks with his bare hands.
Hitler III is growing to be a more interesting villain in this issue too. There is an interesting generational relation going on between he, his father, and grandfather. His grandfather was, well, Hitler. Consequently, II is a nervous wreck with confidence issues. He wasn’t there to suppress III’s sociopath and narcissistic tendencies, so Hitler III is an entitled and sadistic warmonger ready to burn everything so long as he gets to sit atop the ashes.
Eddy Barrows continues to make this one of the most visually stunning comics on the market. The massive spreads and titanic action scenes are downright unforgettable. Eber Ferreira backs him up with spectacular inkwork, and Adriano Lucas doesn’t disappoint with his explosive color palette.
Freedom Fighters #10 is another exciting and fist-pumping action romp wherein the American resistance begins to grow and strike back at last against the Ratzi regime. It’s a fun, dramatic, and gorgeous issue, and it’s easily worth a recommendation. Feel free to give it a read.
Freedom Fighters #10 comes to us from writer Robert Venditti, artist Eddy Barrows, inker Eber Ferreira, color artist Adriano Lucas, letters from Andworld Design, and cover artist Eddy Barrows with Eber Ferreira and Adriano Lucas.
Final Score: 8.5/10
