Russia Is Oliver’s Next Port Of Call On The Next Arrow

by Erik Amaya

Arrow is taking a brief hiatus next week, but when it returns, Oliver (Stephen Amell) heads to Russia to retrieve “plans” to the antimatter weapon which destroyed Earth-2. The trip will have him relieving some dark memories and give Mia (Katherine McNamara) the opportunity to form some of her own.

Hopefully, the quality of the 8th Season will continue into this return trip to Russia. Sojourns to the country do not always work out for the show, but considering how well it has been working with old elements, it is possible the next episode will buck the trend.
Meanwhile, we’re glad to see how easy a team Oliver and grown-up William (Ben Lewis) made. It smooths over the bad blood between them and, quite honestly, it was nice to see them smile at one another. Mia, on the other hand, is too much her father for them to really get along. But, hopefully, we’ve heard the last “she’s just like you” joke for a good, long while.
We also appreciated the strong material for Diggle (David Ramsey) and Rene (Rick Gonzalez) this week. Diggle’s inability to see Connor (Joseph David-Jones) as his son and Rene’s complete dismay at Zoe’s fate are the sorts of story strands we want to see. It also explains why the 2040 story is not as successful as last year — it needed to dovetail into this. For the moment, it seems the kids are staying in 2019 and that is the best destiny for them right now.
Arrow airs Tuesdays on The CW.
