Dex Searches For Tough Answers In A Preview Of The Next Stumptown

Stumptown is taking another one-week break. But when it returns, Dex (Cobie Smulders) takes the biggest case of her career: what really happened to Benny in Afghanistan. The original army investigation is classified top secret and while everyone thinks she should let it go, there’s no stopping Dex. Well, unless someone kills her.
I bet this is all Kirk Acevedo’s fault. She played her commanding officer in the flashbacks of this week’s episode and since he almost always plays bad dudes, he has to be part of it. We’ll probably even see him in the present-day during the finale.
That said, I like the turn. Several episodes this season seemed to set up a finale in which Dex confronts her parents. But switching back to Benny is a better choice. Emotionally, it is the thing holding Dex back from any sort of growth and she may need to deal with these things before she can find her parents. At the same time, we hope this isn’t a lead-up to discovering Benny’s alive. That would be the wrong path for Stumptown.
Nevertheless, the show has been a delight and we look forward to seeing how it wraps up its first season.
