‘Event Leviathan: Checkmate’ Pulled Again. Will We Ever See It In Print?

by Olly MacNamee

The Hollywood Reporter (THR) has reported that DC Comics have postponed the 6 issue Event Leviathan: Checkmate mini-series that had already been rescheduled from April 22nd to June 2nd. And while we know since Dan Didio’s departure plans for a title-wide reboot under the 5G initiative have been all but scuppered, how much this seres by Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev actually tied into this and how much of this decision has been based on poor sales of last year’s Event Leviathan mini-series and follow up one-shot Leviathan Dawn mini-series is up for debate. But, that’s the reason they’re giving, claiming they, “will be rescheduled to align with upcoming DC Universe storylines”.
In the post-pandemic new world order (when it finally gets here), less is more and it does have me asking, will we ever see this series in print? Or, will it go the way of Marvel titles, such as Spider-Gwen and go digital-only? Like me, you’ll have to wait and see. But, we’ll keep ’em peeled for you.
