by Richard Bruton

Webcomic Weekly, where I try to maintain some semblance of weekly schedule showing you great online comics of all sorts. This week, something different – the brilliance of Shannon Tindle‘s Gordon, an imagined storyline of Gotham City’s Commish Gordon…
Yep, this guy…

I first noticed it on Twitter, just a single image that I was going to put up in one of the Art For Art’s Sake posts. But then I did a little digging into Tindle’s Twitter and discovered a huge number of these Gordon pieces.
Things like this…

Shannon Tindle‘s the exec producer & showrunner of Lost Ollie, writer & director of Ultraman, and creator of Kubo and the Two Strings – a very busy career well outside comics. But these Gordon images really grabbed me, as I’m sure they’re grabbing you.
Thing is, there’s absolutely no context I can find on them – the best I can come up with is this…
To answer a few questions regarding Gordon:
1. I do have a particular story in mind.
2. I would love to make it an official thing for DC.
3. It was conceived as a comic.
4. This is not a Batman story. I want to spend time with Jim Gordon. He deserves a big adventure of his own.— Shannon Tindle (@ShannonTindle_1) September 12, 2021
Some have asked- What’s with the Gordon run? Are you obsessed?
I like to spend time with a character. I like to get to know them. I do this by drawing, writing, and scribbling so that I can better understand their lives. And yes, I have a story that I desperately want to tell:) pic.twitter.com/IbBShlUXSY

So… maybe there’s a project coming out of this? Maybe it’s just a super talented artist playing around with a character they just can’t get out of their head?
Either way, it’s something to follow and enjoy! And I’m definitely onboard with Gail Simone’s plea…

Anyway, it seems to have been something Tindle’s been playing around with since August. It’s all seemingly just isolated ideas and images, sometimes groups of images, sometimes a little more. But when you start to get into them and really look at them in series, you just can’t help but make up a storyline in your own head.
It’s gorgeous cartooning for sure, but I think there’s so much more than Tindle could do with this… so, DC? Are you listening? Are you seeing this? C’mon… make it happen!
Now, a few recent ones for you… go on, make up your own story to go along with this, tell me it wouldn’t be amazing!
