Square-Enix Brings ‘Forspoken’ To Gamescom With Ten Minutes Of New Footage
by Sage Ashford
Square-Enix’s Forspoken hasn’t had the best of times with RPG fans lately. The company released a summary trailer on Twitter earlier this month that trended online for its cringy, stereotypical presentation. But the company has bounced back with this latest gameplay trailer, which shows Forspoken to be more than a fantasy game brought to us by CW writers.
Though it’s described as a gameplay trailer, these ten minutes function more like an overview for the entire game. It introduces the protagonist Frey Holland, and shows how she goes from New York City to the world of Athia, a planet in need of a defender from the Tantas, a collection of powerful sorceresses.
From there, the trailer breaks down a side quest Frey goes on to attain a powerful piece of equipment. Within this side quests, new environments and enemies are shown off, but more importantly we’re given another look at the combat and the game’s traversal methods.
This might be the best showing Forspoken’s had yet, and makes the game’s delay into 2023 all the more difficult to deal with. Still, Forspoken will release for PlayStation 5 and PC on January 23rd.
