‘Gotham Knights’ Season 1, Episode 12 Review

It’s weird continuing to watch an already canceled show. It’s almost like viewing a dead man walking with no future. So it’s fairly ironic that Gotham Knights really picks up its pacing in the episode following the announcement of its end. In fact, it’s probably the best episode yet. It featured everything that made the previous episodes good while also minimizing what made them bad. However, it didn’t remove those elements entirely, which is actually a good thing. This show is about young drama. So holding on to that is actually the right choice. What made this episode shine is the fact that it only dabbled in that aspect while really hyping up the tension and stakes.
Now that Duella (Olivia Rose Keegan) is with her mother, the other Knights make it a point to take down the Court of Owls for good. Rebecca March (Lauren Stamile), though, has other plans. The Knights find secret locations within several buildings that were designed by Alan Wayne. This ultimately leads to them discovering a meeting of the Owls that March planned. Unfortunately, she outsmarted them by killing all of the members of the Court, including her husband, and framing the Knights in the process. Duella sees this and wants to help, but her mother drugs her before she has a chance to leave. Also, Harvey (Misha Collins) discovers that March is actually Alan Wayne’s wife, revealing that she is a lot older than she appeared.
This episode leans heavily into the Batman mythology that has made the other episodes so great. It’s just a shame it took the entire season to get here; this episode should have taken place about three or four episodes earlier. There’s only one left in the season and the show as a whole. This episode left on a pretty big cliffhanger, so expectations are high for how it will end. Based on the rest of the season, fans shouldn’t get their hopes up that it’s going to end on a solid note, though, even if there is some indication that it’s certainly a possibility.
Gotham Knights airs Tuesdays on the CW.
