SDCC 2023: Sara Frazetta To Co-Write ‘Vampirella: Dead Flowers’ For Dynamite

Once again, a Frazetta is coming to Vampirella’s aid.
Dynamite announced Tuesday the imminent arrival of Vampirella: Dead Flowers from writer Sara Frazetta, co-writer Bob Freeman, and artist Alberto Locatelli. And just as her grandfather, Frank Frazetta, did 50 years ago, Sara will provide covers for the series.
“It’s such an honor for me to carry on the Frazetta legacy with Vampirella,” she said in a statement. “Now, being able to pick up that torch myself, in a small way of course, is entirely surreal. I’ve loved Vampirella since I was a little girl.”
When one of Vampi’s old nemeses dies, she takes a trip to his “rural Gothic estate of Rookhaven” to hear the reading of his will. There, she meets the manor’s “eclectic staff, from a mysterious groundskeeper and his even more cryptic young daughter, the sinister and enigmatic Mr. Frey, and more.”
According to Dynamite, “fans can expect a tone and style similar to the classic Warren magazine era, when artist Jose Gonzalez made his mark and Frank Frazetta could often be found on the covers.
In addition to Frazetta, Locatelli, Lucio Parrillo, Collette Turner, Ergün Gündüz, and cosplayer Rachel Hollon provide covers. Also, a special “icon” presentation of the original Frank Frazetta painting will be available.
Dynamite will also release a “new vision” of the very first Vampirella magazine appearance. Artist Matt DiMasi offers up one of his “shattered” covers. Inside are the original 64 pages that include Vampirella’s genesis as well as contributions by Neal Adams, Reed Crandall, Tom Sutton, Ernie Colon, and more.
Vampirella: Dead Flowers is due for release this October.
