‘My Adventures With Superman’ Season 1, Episode 8 Review: A Sinister Payoff

Although it followed a roughly monster-of-the-week type of formula, My Adventures with Superman was certainly building towards something this week. All of these different villains had a connection to the mysterious general and Task Force X. The story also had the culmination of that brewing thread and did so in spectacular fashion. This Superman (Jack Quaid) is very different than what fans are used to. He’s still very new at this and learning his powers; he has some very real weaknesses. And this was the first time he faced a challenge that truly threatened his life, resulting in a cliffhanger ending.
Clark’s super hearing kicks in, resulting in him performing a never-ending series of good deeds. His obsession with finding the general leads him to one of the Intergang members on the run. But this is just a trap for Task Force X to attack Superman. They all have new upgrades to their powers and work together to attack the Man of Steel from all sides. Jimmy’s (Ishmel Sahid) social media reveals to him and Lois (Alice Lee) that Superman is in trouble. His fatigue has led to him making a mistake, causing the public to turn on him. In the episode’s closing moments, Superman is captured and taken away.
The patience for this show’s world building is immensely impressive. Task Force X is a pivotal part of the DC Universe, but this team feels more like a Sinister Six. They even fought together like that team of ne’er-do-wells as they battered Superman to a pulp. However, Superman did a good job fighting back. But Parasite finished him off. Also, it’s interesting to see that Superman is essentially being attacked on two fronts: physically by Task Force X and also in the public eye. His powers are still very new to people, and they are quick to turn on him in fear. All of these elements are making for a very entertaining story that should deliver in part two.
My Adventures with Superman streams Fridays on max.
