Critical Role Unveils ‘The Chronicles of Exandria Vol II: The Legend of Vox Machina’

One of the things I really enjoyed when Critical Role was still a live-streamed production was the breaks they would take to showcase the fan art inspired by the campaigns. Now, I am sure there is a mountain of paperwork and copywritten material laws and all sorts of other things that come into play when you have a cartoon on Amazon and all that. But, I still want to believe that the players and production team are doing their best to support the fan community in ways that they can without that community cutting into the money they need to be making for all their work.

Maybe it’s the romantic in me or the dreamer, but somewhere along the road I like to think of that party as champions of the hobby from the grassroots up, and everything I have seen and done in this industry from interviews to panel moderation has shown me nothing to the contrary.

Critical Role is now putting out a stunning book collecting Vox Machina artwork from international Critter artists. The book, titled The Chronicles of Exandria Vol II: The Legend of Vox Machina, is a coffee table-sized tome collecting stunning Vox Machina art from the second half of their campaign journeys on Critical Role. This volume brings this sought-after artwork back into print, as well as adds nine new pieces of artwork to the offering.

Over 100 Critter artists from around the world bring these characters and stories to life, curated and art directed by Lauryn Ipsum as well as Critical Role’s Liam O’Brien and resident immortal Taliesin Jaffe. The cover art by Matteo Scalera and Moreno Dinisio showcases the epic-level members of Vox Machina geared up for battle against the Whispered One, with his insidious and omnipresent artifacts looming in the background.

Inside, each chapter follows an arc of the second half of the Vox Machina campaign, complete with in-world writing from Cobalt Soul archivists.

The Chronicles of Exandria Vol II: The Legend of Vox Machina and its companion The Chronicles of Exandria Vol I: The Tale of Vox Machina are lovingly crafted celebrations of the storytelling that brings together communities of fans and creators.
