Exalted Funeral Launches ‘Abyss Of Hallucinations’ Collected Edition On Kickstarter

by Anton Kromoff

Welcome to the table,

I stumbled into the occult world in my late teens because my name is Anton and many people would ask “You mean like Lavey?”

This question was asked so much that I finally sought out who this Anton Lavey was and what he had done that was so well known. I kept getting asked if I shared his name because I “did kind of look like him,” or so said the amulet wearing elder nerds and their cool goth girlfriends who frequented the back of the comic shop. While there was little there for me, looking into Mr. Lavey led me to the works of Aleister Crowley and his Book of Lies and that captivated me for quite a few years.

So when I saw Mörg Borg and Crowley’s Book of Lies together in a Kickstarter from Exalted Funeral, I was intrigued.

The TTRPG is called Abyss of Hallucinations and it’s an occult-inspired Mörk Borg setting built upon the nihilistic psychedelia of Aleister Crowley’s Book of Lies.  This campaign adds the third and final volume to the zine collection, and unifies the triad in a deluxe hardcover compilation, giving the Abyss the decadent glory it deserves.

Hell, The Many, Consciousness, The Universe… The Abyss is known by many names among us.  As unsettling and playful as the grinning face of death, The Abyss offers an incoherent world moldering on the corpse of rationality, birthing a strange pantheon, new playable classes, and a land beyond the reach of the dying world’s death rattle.

An infinitesimal dream meandering timelessly through the last glimmer of light before existence blinks away.  A world of magick, rejecting duality, and utter nihilistic bliss.  Carry your corpse over the threshold, explore the beckoning landscape, steep your horsehair till it grows into snakes, and suffer a fate far worse than death trapped for eternity within the puzzling walls of the Skidoo Inn.  Let your blood pour freely in homage to the Mother of Abominations.  Drink from her lost Graal hidden within the sanctuary of the floating Temple.  Love under will.  Play what Thou Wilt.  Die Daily.

There is also a dungeon synth cassette by Cthulugans as an add-on to the campaign, a growing new feature that is really amusing the hell out of me as I see more and more of these pop up in the TTRPG space.

The current campaign offers:

  • A map of the Abyss, including 16 unique locations
  • A character and NPC name generator, 6 Classes including the Seeker of the Left-Hand Path, Offspring of Pan, Mountaineer, and Pure Fool
  • 7 Deities
  • An illustrated fold-out map of the Skidoo Inn and the psychological troubles occurring within
  • 12 new occult treasures
  • Hexcrawling rules
  • Storytellers tools for open-world exploration
  • Creatures of the abyss
  • New magic items
  • An introductory adventure
  • So much more

This thing oozes style and strangeness in the best possible ways. If you are a fan of occult adventures, esoteric lore, or just things that go from weird to weirder then you may want to give this campaign a look. You can learn more at this link!

Until next time, we all know what we are but few know what we could be.
