Previewing ‘Monster Fun’ #14: Getting Festive For The Holidays

The new monthly Monster Fun heads into the holidays packed with all-ages treats for under the Christmas tree…

So, 36 pages this month, but that’s 36 pages of darned good stuff from the newest kids’ comic here in Britain, with The Treasury Of British Comics making great use of all those classic kids’ characters they’ve got in their archive.

Alongside classics given a modern update including Kid Kong, Gums, and Martha’s Monster Make-Up, plus the brilliant Hell’s Angel by Chris Garbutt, there’s two all-new strips – Rex Power brings us the adventures of an intergalactic bounty-hunting alien dinosaur, something that just sounds fabulous even before seeing the strip. And then there’s Peaches’ Creatures with Peaches Jones travelling the world to find and recruit monsters for a secret mission.

All in all, a really strong line-up for this Christmas special issue and one that it would be great for any kids in your family to find underneath their Christmas tree this year. Even better, why not give the gift of a subscription?

And if all that wasn’t enough, let’s begin with another of Henry Flint’s Global Ghoulies, his single pager that brilliantly homages the Ken Reid classic World Wide Weirdies…

Peaches’ Creatures brings the great art of Dan Boultwood back into Monster Fun, which is always a good thing. And Ned Hartley‘s intro tale of this kid monster hunter takes us into the depths of London where a giant squid is the latest to be recruited into Peaches’ plan… because this particular creepy girl is no hero…

It’s a multi-parter, something that will work a heck of a lot better now that Monster Fun has turned into a monthly.

And talking of multi-part tales, the other new strip here, Rex Power, begins its tale with loads of action and a great idea – adventures of an intergalactic bounty-hunting alien dinosaur. And yes, it’s as much fun as the idea made me hope.

Korey and his pals are playing where they shouldn’t, but they couldn’t ever expect their little parkour dare game to get interrupted by that bounty-hunting alien dinosaur chasing down its latest prey…
