Streaming And Screaming: Dario Argento’s ‘The Stendhal Syndrome’

The more filmography I watch from Dario Argento the higher he climes on my list of favorite auteurs. The Stendhal Syndrome is a father daughter collaboration where Asia Argento plays the lead roll. Stendhal Syndrome is one of Argento’s most divisive and sadistic Giallo films. The ’90s era CGI hasn’t aged well and the graphic depictions of sexual violence will alienate many viewers.
However, even Argento’s B-game is more creative than many director’s A-game. The Stendhal Syndrome shines because of a powerhouse performance by Asia Argento. She has a fiery intensity unmatched by few cinema-dames. Dreamlike and nightmarish The Stendhal Syndrome is a decent into hell with fear that lingers longer after the film ends.
