Magma Comix Joins The Lunar Distribution Family With New Worldwide Deal

by Scott Redmond

Independent publisher Magma Comix took one step forward with their 2024 launch titles, and now they’ve taken another major step.

The boutique publisher has announced that they have reached a worldwide deal with Lunar Distribution. This deal gives Lunar the non-exclusive rights to roll out and distribute individual issues from Magma Comix, beginning with their three launch titles. Those titles are Silicon Bandits (Jason Starr, Dalibor Talajić) and The Principles of Necromancy (Jackson Lanzing & Collin Kelly, Eamon Winkle) both launching in April, followed by The Scale Trade (Steve Orlando, Megan Huang) in May.

“I am very excited to add Magma to the Lunar family,” said Lunar Distribution co-owner Christian Merkler. “We are thrilled to partner with publishers that understand the importance of the direct market and are poised to provide great titles to them. We look forward to a long relationship and continued growth.

Lunar was founded in 2020 and currently has deals to distribute comics from other publishers including DC Comics and Image Comics. Originally, Magma was an imprint of Heavy Metal before becoming independent in 2023. Alongside the Lunar deal, they also secured an exclusive distribution deal with Diamond Book Distributers for their trade collections.

Magma President and Publisher Denton Tipton shared in Merkler’s enthusiasm for this deal. “Christina and her team are not only receptive to feedback, they quickly implement solutions or double-down on their strengths,” he said. Adding that “Lunar is an essential partner for Magma during these fluid times.”

Their new deal begins immediately. It will see the distribution of The Principles of Necromancy #1 on April 3rd, Silicon Bandits on April 10th.
