WonderCon 2024: Jakks Pacific Reveals Toys From Sonic, Super Mario, ‘The Simpsons’ And More

by Gary Catig

Jakks Pacific and its subsidiary, Disguise Costumes, are known for creating fun products that cover a variety of fandoms and brands. At WonderCon 2024, their panel previewed some of the upcoming toys, collectibles, and costumes that they will be releasing in the future.

Disguise Costumes began the panel with their exciting costumes for individuals and families. 2024 Marks the 40th year anniversary for the release of the original Ghostbusters film. They have a nice selection that spans characters from the original including Slimer and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man to the recently released Ghostbusters: Frozen Kingdom such as the big bad Garraka.

Their infant and toddler costumes are designed for easy diaper changes and are composed of soft fabrics not to irritate the wearer’s sensitive skin. The Inflatables line are lightweight for mobility and made to maximize visibility.

Another franchise celebrating an anniversary is Minecraft. In honor of its 15th year anniversary, Disguise is making special Creeper and Jack O’Lantern Block Head masks with glow in the dark paint.

There will also be a wide assortment from Disney highlighting such movies as Frozen, Ralph Breaks the Internet, A Nightmare Before Christmas (Sam’s Club exclusive), Wish, Lilo and Stitch (Costco exclusive), and Inside Out 2. Costco will be home to a Glow-in-the-Dark collection that are also UV activated.

On the toy side, video games are well represented. For Sonic the Hedgehog, we received a glimpse at the wave 17 and 18 and Easter figure assortment of the 2.5” scale line out this spring along with wave 15 and 16 of the 4” figures, a Target 4” figure 3-pack, wave 6 of the 1:64 scale die cast vehicles, and a Knuckles 6” Collector figure.

Arriving to Walmart in the 4” Franchise series line are the Werewolf from Altered Beast, Axel from Streets of Rage, and AiAi with banana from Super Monkey Ball.

There are even more Sonic figures from the series Sonic Prime for the 2.5” and 5” scale. The shards from the 2.5” scale waves 1-4 can be combined to create the Paradox Prism.

Looking a little bit further into the future, you can collect the 2.5” scale Tornado Biplane with Sonic figure, wave 11 plushes, and 1:64 scale die cast vehicles wave 7.

One of Sonic’s rivals, Super Mario, is also receiving new waves for the 2.5” scale and 4” scale.

Jakks Pacific is also exploring a newer video game franchise with toys from Bendy. They include plushes and figures.

The biggest announcement from the Jakks Pacific panel is that they are making The Simpsons toys. Their first products include a family multi-pack where Marge, Maggie, Santa’s Little Helper, and Snowball II are exclusives. There is the Living Room Diorama that comes with Homer and has four interactive features. For the “Treehouse of Horror” fans, there is a Talking Crusty Doll that appeared in the short “Clown Without Pity.” Finally, a Moe’s Prank Phone was revealed that includes the audio of Bart’s crank calls to Moe’s Tavern.
