SWAG Adventures: The WonderCon 2024 edition
by Gary Catig
WonderCon 2024 has come and gone, and like with any convention, we like to share some of the things we picked up over the weekend. Sure, we’ve had bigger hauls at events such as SXSW and SDCC, but we still came back home with some great items.

Lionsgate had a significant presence at WonderCon. They hosted a panel and had a booth on the exhibit floor, which held a photo op for the upcoming The Strangers: Chapter 1. We picked up a poster and reusable bag promoting the movie. Another upcoming film from Lionsgate is the post-apocalyptic sci-fi action comedy Borderlands. A group of Psycho Bandits handed out posters of the video-game adaptation.
We also collected some other odds and ends such as the Vulcan salute foam hand passed out during the Star Trek: Discovery panel. Sure it fits with the Star Trek theme, but I can’t recall how many Vulcans or people doing the salute appear in the final season of Discovery.
From the comics side, Magma Comix had previews of their next slate of titles including Principles of Necromancy, Silicon Bandits, and Scale Trade at their booth. Then, at the Bad Idea panel we received the con exclusive The Hero Trade Fourth Anniversary Special.

Not only were there a ton of product reveals at the Jakks Pacific panel, they also handed out Sonic the Hedgehog figures from wave 15 of the 2.5” line. We were also fortunate enough to answer one of the trivia questions and won the Minecraft Steve costume from Disguise. Our last toy related pickup was the cute Hasbro button with a very classic feel.
Overall, WonderCon 2024 was a lot less busy compared to previous years. Some vendor staples like Funko and Bandai Namco didn’t exhibit and there were no panels in the arena this year. The rainy Easter weekend probably also discouraged people from attending. Yet, it was still a fun show, and as you can see, we still had a decent SWAG haul.
