Marvel Teases The Next Round Of X-Men Relaunch Series

by Tony Thornley

About a month ago, Marvel Comics revealed the new core of the X-Men line debuting this summer- X-Men, Uncanny X-Men and Exceptional X-Men. Now the publisher has teased the next three series to debut.

In the initial announcement, Marvel revealed that six additional series would be joining those three core titles- X-Force, Phoenix, NYX, X-Factor, Wolverine and Storm. Only have of those are being teased, but we looked at each to try to figure out as much as possible.

First up is X-Force. Outside of X-Men & Wolverine, X-Force has become Marvel’s most marketable mutant brand, so its inclusion is obvious. Marvel has already released the announcement that this series will be by Geoffrey Thorne & Marcus To. We’ll dive deeper on that announcement soon.

Phoenix is next on the list. Jean Grey has returned to prominence over the last few years- starting with her younger incarnation in All-New X-Men through her position as a leader as crucial to the X-Men as her husband. The Phoenix has cast a shadow over much of that time, though her Krakoa era stories have barely touched on it, making her more of a powerhouse in her own right. Seeing that this might be a lost in space story makes me even more curious, though- given what multiple Marvel editors have stated- I imagine this is a limited series.

And lastly NYX. This title was the most surprising inclusion. Let’s skip the fact that the 90’s style logo looks incredibly weird for this series, I’m stumped by this one. I doubt it’s a team in a traditional sense, but that’s okay. With the tagline pointing to a story of five mutants against the big city, we already know the idea, and next we just need to know the characters. It’s probably a pretty safe bet that Kamala Khan is one of the five, and I could see Wolverine and Scout joining her.

We’ll learn the creative teams and full concepts of all three titles later this week. Until then, stay tuned for more Marvel news soon!
