Review: It’s Morbin’ Time In ‘Amazing Spider-Man: Blood Hunt’ #1

The vampires are flooding Earth. The heroes are trying to fight back. One hero might be the planet’s only chance, and Peter Parker has to help find him. In Amazing Spider-Man: Blood Hunt #1, Michael Morbius might be the world’s only hope.
Justina Ireland, Marcelo Ferreira, Roberto Poggi, Rachelle Rosenberg and Cory Petit hunt for the vampire cure that could save them all.
Peter Parker has spent the hours since Sundeath defending innocent civilians. But when Misty Knight and the Lizard show up with a mission, Spider-Man has to help. Michael Morbius’s vampire cure might be the world’s only hope, and that means Peter has to help…
I really like the plot here, but some of the execution is lacking. Ireland has a good grip on the characters too. Peter’s nobility and self sacrifice lands just right, and she writes Misty’s confidence and snark really well. The overall ideas and concepts work pretty well too.
The fault is in the execution of the plot progression. There are a handful of weird jumps back and forth. The plot is progressing naturally, but the script itself feels like a page is missing here and there.
Ferreira and Poggi’s line art is pretty solid. Ferreira lays out the pages to keep the action flowing. The focal point panels are always dynamic and draw the eye in. The one place I saw some drawback is that his Lizard is off model, which makes a couple moments seem off.
Rosenberg’s colors nail the tone really well. She uses a similar palette to main series artist Marte Gracia, and adds Spidey’s bright colors with it. Petit’s letters are just right for the story, especially with an information heavy issue like this. He paces the dialogue in a natural way and doesn’t cover the art.

Overview
Blood Hunt has been a lot of fun so far, and the tie-ins have been a huge part of that. This is a great example of doing it right, even with its flaws.
