Marvel Celebrates Another Big Anniversary With ‘Deathlok 50th Anniversary Special’

2024 continues to be a big year for big anniversaries at Marvel Comics. First Wolverine, then Iron Fist and now the icon cyborg assassin himself, Deathlok, gets the spotlight in his own 50th anniversary one-shot.
Written by Christopher Priest and Justina Ireland, Deathlok 50th Anniversary Special will feature a group of legendary artists including Dale Eaglesham, Matthew Waite, Luke Ross, and the return of Denys Cowan, a comics legend that visually redefined Deathlok in the 90’s.
Luther Manning was once a decorated and celebrated solider. Then his life ended. Now he’s the reanimated cyborg killer Deathlok, and he’s the only hope for a dystopian world on the brink. But what role does he have to play in the near future of the Marvel Universe/
“I’m always excited and humbled to write anything in the Marvel universe, but Deathlok as a character is especially important to me because as a U.S. Army veteran, his origin story really resonates in a horrifying way,” Ireland shared. “So I’m excited to dig into the emotional core of what makes Deathlok so unique, while also having some fun.”
“When Deathlok debuted, he truly was one of Marvel’s most offbeat characters — the kind that nearly everyone at Marvel wanted to play with! Heck, Frank Miller even wanted to do a variant for this special,” Editor Mark Paniccia said. “It’s almost impossible not to find a writer or artist that wasn’t inspired by Deathlok in some way.”
