Will You Heed The ‘ProgCore’ Call For New Artists?

Tabletop gaming is such an important part of many of our lives. This is because many of us grew up learning how to find our voice, make lifelong friends, and grow creatively at the gaming table with character sheets in front of us and dice in our hands.

Many who are new to the hobby have come to the table through curiosity nudged by charismatic online streaming games, Netflix shows, and a litany of other sources. Regardless of how we all came to the table, though, it is hard to deny we are truly living in a golden age right now. New games, systems, and settings are coming out daily.

While many of these new offerings are progressive, boldly rolling into a bright new future, there are a few that are championing progressive mindsets. Their roots  are very clearly set into the haunting and beautiful landscape of TTRPG’s Sword & Sorcery-filled past.

ProgCore Fantasy: Dark Age of Theer is still a bit mysterious, shrouded with threads of secrecy as we approach its launch date. However, much like the dark woods of Barovia there is an electricity in the air around this project. It feels like at any moment iconic characters will stride into view to change the landscape of the TTRPG world and help players and storytellers alike forge memories that will last a lifetime.

What we currently know is that this project is helmed by the wildly talented David Nett and Todd Stashwick, who are longtime gamers and champions of the hobby. This team is endeavoring to conjure a multimedia fantasy RPG experience that is set to feature a system-agnostic sourcebook that has 5E compatibility, an actual play element, an original soundtrack, animation, and so much more!

What’s more, David and Todd are doing this along with a cast of collaborators including talents like Yuri Lowenthal, Felica Day, Wil Wheaton, Zelda Devon, and Sam de Leve to name but a few.

While we can’t reveal exact specifics yet, I can tell you firsthand that I believe in this project wholeheartedly. I know that the intent going into it is nothing short of pure and heartwarming. As a lifelong gamer and someone who loves gaming culture, I know this is something that will be an amazing addition to the TTRPG landscape for decades to come.

With all that said, there is currently an opportunity for new artists to lend their talent to this adventure by joining up with the ProgCore team. They are bringing in two early-in-their-career artists via an open submission call that is running until June 30th, 2024.

I will have a ton more coverage on this once the Kickstarter officially launches, but I can tell you that this is going to be an amazing ride and something, if all the stars align, we need in the space.
