‘Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero’ Allows Potential Dream Match-Ups

Bandai-Namco is appealing to every millennial and Gen Z anime fan’s inner nerd with their recent “Game Mode showcase” for Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO. The trailer introduces two main modes for the game–Episode Battle and Custom Battle.

Episode Battle is the standard story mode for the game, starting with Dragon Ball Z and going all the way to the end of Dragon Ball Super. However, there’s a few major differences: there’s eight characters the story’s built around, and there are some “extra” elements to each character’s story. At certain key moments, players can make choices that didn’t happen in the show. As a result, the story’s plot will change slightly. An example shown in the trailer is Goku deciding to bring Krillin with him to fight Raditz, resulting in him later becoming Super Saiyan during the battle against Vegeta. It’s hard not to speculate what else they’ll include–could we get something similar to Zarbon defeating the Saiyans and Frieza like in the classic Dragon Ball Z: Budokai games?

For people who want a bit more control over things though, there’s also Custom Battle. With Custom Battles, players can effectively design their own storylines, with full control over dialogue, battle scenarios, and more. Players will be able to share their custom battles as well, meaning they’ll be able to play through their own perfect DBZ stories.

Dragon Ball Z: Sparking! ZERO launches for PlayStation 5, Steam, and Xbox Series on October 11th.
