Kiryu-san’s story is finding a new avenue in which to unfold.
On Friday at Comic-Con International: San Diego, Prime Video unleashed a teaser for the upcoming series Like A Dragon: Yakuza. Based on the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio video game series of the same names, it stars Ryoma Takeuchi as Kazuma Kiryu as he rises up the ranks in Kamurochō to become the legendary Dragon of Dojima. Spanning across 1995 and 2005, the program follows “the lives of childhood friends, and the repercussions of the decisions of Kiryu, a fearsome and peerless Yakuza warrior with a strong sense of justice, duty, and humanity.” And as seen in the preview, it all begins with a certain tattoo. Other members of the cast include the newly announced Kento Kaku, who takes the role of Akira Nishikiyama, aka Nishiki, Kiryu’s sworn brother and childhood friend.
The teaser also offered a glimpse of the Yakuza world made into live action, but it remains to be seen how much time will be spent in hostess club or playing with slot cars.
Directed by Masaharu Take, the first three episodes of Like a Dragon: Yakuza debut October 24th on Prime Video
