SDCC 2024: ‘Mortal Kombat 1’ Brings The Khaos With New Expansion

by Sage Ashford

NetherRealms Studios mentioned having more Mortal Kombat 1 news at San Diego Comic Con, and they really meant it, revealing not just more characters, but an entire story expansion in a violent new trailer.

With Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns, NetherRealms wants to welcome everyone back to the gory, macabre Mortal Kombat stages they’re used to, as the Titan Havik reaches Liu Kang’s New Era timeline, intending to tear it down.

With Khaos Reigns comes Kombat Pack 2, which will add three new characters at launch: Noob Saibot, Cyrax, and Sektor. They also plan to add three new guest characters: Ghostface from the Scream movie franchise, T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and Conan from Conan the Barbarian.

Also, as a free update players can expect the return of Animalities, where characters turn into animals to finish their opponents in traditional Mortal Kombat fashion.  They’ll also get a new Scorpion skin, inspired by the classic 1995 Mortal Kombat film.

Mortal Kombat 1 has had a bit of a rocky start, but hopefully this expansion will get things back on track.

The Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns expansion will be available September 24th for Steam, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and the Nintendo Switch.
