Jumping On– Series Premieres, One-Shots, And New Story Arcs Kicking Off On August 21, 2024

One of the most frustrating things about finding new comics to read and enjoy is finding a good jumping on point. It can be confusing and disheartening to pick up a single issue from the middle of an arc without having the context of the previous chapters.

With that in mind, here are a few New Story Arcs, Series Premieres, and One-Shots that caught my eye for this upcoming New Comic Book Day, Wednesday, August 21, 2024.

Something Crawled Out #1, Vault

Edith “Eddie” Miller is average. No grand plans or great prospects. She spends her days sleeping in and her nights working shifts at a gas station. When her younger sister disappears, Eddie unearths a web of missing girls and rotting bodies. The police prove useless, so Eddie teams up with her best friend, Rainer, in a desperate hunt to find her sister. The only thing is-Eddie believes her best friend might be the Devil himself.

Sometimes, a title just reaches out and grabs you. This is one of those times.

Patra #1, Dark Horse

From the creators behind Starman and The Flash comes this new supernatural series about slasher monsters, mad scientists, and cult movie-inspired horror.

A young girl named Patra wakes up with no memory of her past. All she knows is that a big knife and a horrific mask appear whenever she’s in danger. Oh, that, and a deranged killer straight out of  a 1980s slasher film wants to make Patra his victim too. 

Monstrous dangers and mysterious secrets abound in this homage to the classic horror movies of yore.

Huge Detective #1, Titan

When a string of murders and disappearances sweep the United States, a human and a giant with sizable detective skills are on the case. Something huge is coming.

I mean… COME ON!!!

After a race of giants emerged from deep sleep beneath the earth, a bloody conflict ensued in what became known as The Omega Event. Eventually, a treaty is resolved and the state of Brobdingnag is created, allowing humans and giants to co-exist harmoniously.

Yet tragedy threatens to shatter the peace, and an unlikely partnership is formed between Detectives Tamaki and GYANT.

As the pair attempt to stop the criminal at large, they find themselves involved in a mystery bigger than either could imagine.
