First Look: Pages From Dynamite’s ‘DuckTales’ #1 Hint At The Treasure Hunt Ahead

As revealed last month, Disney’s DuckTales will soon be back as a Dynamite comic book from writer Brandon Montclare and artist Tommaso Ronda. But now the company is ready to share several pages from the debut issue in the following first look:

As seen above, the first adventure begins during a normal day in Duckburg. Uncle Scrooge is swimming in his Money Bin and has engaged his nephews — Huey, Dewey, and Louie — to count every last coin. Of course, such a task leaves them wondering how they can amass their own fortunes. “Unca” Scrooge may have some of the answers as their conversation leads toward a treasure hunt just as a big boom goes off in the building.

Are the Beagle Boys trying to steal the McDuck fortune?

That remains the be seen, but the preview above sets up the first major story arc of the series, which will focus on the “core four” of Scrooge and his nephews. The quartet will venture around Duckburg uncovering town secrets and secret treasure while Scrooge relays some aspects of his storied life as an adventurer.

“What makes DuckTales unique is that it’s two stories in one comic: Huey, Dewey & Louie are striking out on their first adventures, while the world-famous Scrooge McDuck continues to seek treasure after an epic lifetime of expeditions,” editor Nate Crosby said in a statement. “The incredible stories that Brandon and Tomasso are creating will delight fans of the original animated series, and the classic comics by Carl Barks and Don Rosa!”

Naturally enough, expect some fun flashbacks and appearances from the expanded DuckTales cast. Per Dynamite, Launchpad McQuack, Fintheart Glomgold, Webby Vanderquack, Gyro Gearloose, Magica De Spell and more will all take a bow during the story.

And, yes, the Beagle Boys will also make their presence known.

The issue is supported by variant covers from Ivan Bigarella, Francesco Tomaselli, Carlo Lauro, and Alan Quah. A fifth cover will utilize artwork from the Disney vaults.
