This is the first Cadet Dredd collection, coming from the pages of the 2000 AD Regened all-ages experiment of the last few years. Whilst that’s moved into the Judge Dredd Megazine right now, including new Cadet Dredd strips at some point, these are the earlier episodes, featuring a young Dredd in the white Cadet helmet, but still breaking heads and laying down the law.
What you’ll find in here are a collection of really fun little stories, all self-contained one-offs, featuring plenty of really impressive talent doing Dredd for an all-ages audience – something that you wouldn’t think would work, but actually does.
Sure, it might be a toned-down Dredd, but there’s still plenty of the Dredd attitude and the full-on ridiculousness of the whole Mega-City One experience, you know, like this first episode where it’s Cadet Dredd putting the smackdown on some unruly velociraptors…
And after all, in a world where you get the legendary Chris Weston doing a magnificent Grudzilla versus Krong PR piece in Mega-City One where Cadets Dredd and Rico are on hand to make sure everything goes swimmingly you just know it’s going to be great.
Especially once Cadet Rico gets swallowed and there’s only one way Dredd can get him out… yep, giant Godzilla poop gags, exactly the sort of thing you know kids will love…
Yep, all in all, pretty fine stuff, a great line-up of talent, an all-ages Dredd that actually works.
