‘Alien: Romulus’ Director Fede Alvarez And Star Aileen Wu Take Us Behind The Chestburster Scene

Alien: Romulus attempts to bring the franchise back to its terrifying, visually stunning roots while mixing in some influences from the 1980s/’90s Dark Horse comic series.

Taking place a few years after the events of Alien (1979), Romulus finds a band of disgruntled young Weyland-Yutani workers exploring a derelict space station with hopes of leaving their crummy mining planet. But the space station isn’t so empty after all…

In the brand new clip below, director Fede Alvarez and actress Aileen Wu discuss all the practical effects, puppets, and fake blood used to create the film’s gruesome chestburster scene.

Alien: Romulus also stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, and Spike Fearn.

The upcoming 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD releases will include several other behind-the-scenes featurettes, alternate and extended scenes, and a conversation with Alvarez and producer Ridley Scott. The 4K will be also available in a limited edition Steelbook with new custom artwork and packaging.

Meanwhile, Scott’s landmark 1979 original Alien is celebrating its 45th and is available as part of a digital bundle with Alien: Romulus.

Alien: Romulus is now available on digital, and will land on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD December 3rd.
