Craig Rousseau Reveals The Look Of Dynamite’s ‘Herculoids’

The Herculoids will soon be in comic shops.

To celebrate, Dynamite has released sample pages from the first issue, which sees writer Tom Sniegoski and artist Craig Rousseau charting the course for the latest expansion of the company’s line of Warner Bros. Discovery comics based on classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons. Hailing from 1967, The Herculoids told the tale of a “space barbarian” family and their pets, the titular Herculoids, as they attempt to survive on Amzot, a world full of riches, but under constant alien attack. Of course, it probably helps that the characters and the overall imagery of the show was devised by Alex Toth.

The group is led by Zandor and includes his wife Tara, and son Dorno. The Herculoids are comprised of Zok, the laser-shooting dragon; Igoo, the rock ape; Tundro, the rhinoceros; and the iconic shape-shifting duo of Gloop and Gleep. Can they keep its resources safe from those who would squander it all? Also, what new secrets about their home will they discover as the series begins?

“I can honestly say that getting the chance to write The Herculoids series for Dynamite is one of the highlights of my comics career,” Sniegoski said at the time the title was first announced. “Having the opportunity to get into the minds of these characters has been a real challenge, but also incredibly fun. Who wouldn’t want to write a giant rock ape?! And equally exciting is seeing what artist Craig Rousseau is doing with my scripts. I think there are going to be some very pleased Herculoids fans out there when they see his art.”

Rousseau added, “The Herculoids is one of those dream gigs that comes along so rarely, I couldn’t jump fast enough to say ‘YES!’ to drawing Zandor, Tara, Dorno, Igoo, Tundro, Zok, Gleep and Gloop! I grew up with the cartoon and can’t wait to tell their continuing stores with one of my favorite creative partners, Tom Sniegoski.”

Supporting the first issue are covers from Rousseau, Francesco Mattina, Dan Panosian, Bjorn Barends, Joseph Michael Linsner, and comics legend Mike Mignola.

The Herculoids #1 arrives on February 19th.
